Andy Martin - Mustafa and Mohamed
Part of Memories Carried
“As a child living in exile, images were all we carried with us; they were all that carried our memories” Yamam Nabeel
Memories Carried is a touring photography exhibition and campaign, bringing together photographers from the Arab world and across Europe to raise funds for grassroots human rights and humanitarian organisations in Occupied Palestinian Territory and Lebanon.
Each photographer has donated a selection of images, which have been produced as a series of collectable prints specially for this campaign, priced at £50. With each print sold, 100% of profits go straight to the charity partners: Al Haq, Al Mezan, Health Workers for Palestine and The Dr Ghassan Abu Sittah Children’s Fund.
Each image is produced as an archival print on fine art paper at A4 size.
About the Artist
Andy Martin is a photographer and filmmaker from Sunderland, County Durham.
With a strong passion for much of the North East, its industry and people, his extensive body of work spanning almost 20 years is an unparalleled record of the area seen from a unique perspective. He is especially drawn to working alongside marginalised communities who are still living through the cultural, social and economic changes of the region, giving them a platform to tell their stories.
Andy primarily works with older, higher quality analogue processes medium and large format film cameras - to tell these stories. He is also one of a small handful of people in the world specialising in a photographic technique known as the the wet collodion process which dates back to 1851. The resulting images are produced entirely by hand on sheets of metal and glass - tintypes and ambrotypes - with no two the same. The majority of Andy’s work is is produced at his dedicated studio and darkroom in Hendon.
