Ja‘far ‘Abd al-Hamid was born in Iraq and moved with his family to London when he was in his teens. While completing a BA in Social Policy at the University of London, Ja‘far found himself drawn increasingly to film studies. Later, he went on to complete a research dissertation in the dynamics of film adaptations.

Ja‘far has had the honour of having a feature script shortlisted for the Sundance Screenwriters Lab. His first feature, Mesocafé (UK 2011), screened in London and Dubai; his second, Kal & Cambridge (UK 2024), is streaming on Tubi. His short, Tabbouleh & Pie (UK 2020), featured in l’Institut du Monde Arabe’s Parfums d’Orient season.
